Falcon Beach - The Music

The Music

The great music in Falcon Beach is a combination of the efforts of our composer Ari Wise and the show's music supervisor, Sarah Webster. In the movie pilot, which aired on Global Television in January 2005 and on ABC Family in June 2006, audiences heard 16 songs from indie bands like Pilate, Doctor, Paper Moon, and Matt Mays & El Torpedo as well as songs from established major label artists like Sam Roberts, Holly McNarland and Sloan. See below for details on music featured in the pilot.

Song: I am The Summer time Artist: Fell more...
Okay, the hook's definitely on topic, but it's the high-energy, guitar-driven groove and powerful vocal that made this song the perfect tone-setter for the opening sequence of the movie. It practically scolds you into mellowing out. The L.A.-based quartet put together by Scot Sax (Wanderlust and Bachelor Number One) is one of the hottest foursomes on the horizon.
Song: Brother Down Artist: Sam Roberts more...
To clear his head Jason needs to shred, and he's at his best in an early scene when he does some "outside back rolls" to the kinetic miracle that is Brother Down, the Sam Roberts hit from the platinum selling, multi-Juno Award winning album We Were Born In A Flame. The song rides on soul and its defining guitar riff is a modern Canadian classic.
Song: Could Be Anything Artist: The Eames Era more...
Tanya blows into town to the jangling guitars and cut-through vocals of Could Be Anything by Baton Rouge based quartet The Eames Era. This one's found on a 4-song EP teeming with melodic poppy teen spirit.
Song: The Idiot On The Bike Artist: Aveo more...
The annual May 2-4 beach party gets off to a raucous start with The Idiot On The Bike by Aveo, one of Seattle's hottest indie bands. If you admire tight, distorted rhythm guitar chops, soaring bass-lines, and a vocalist willing to blow his larynx out on a single song, this could be your band.
Song: Mercury Is Clearly Opposing Neptune Artist: Paper Moon more...
It's the cops that break up the May 2-4 beach party, and certainly not this song. But it is causing all the dancing. Described by London Scene as "a perfect dose of perfect pop", Winnipeg's Paper Moon write songs which are "short, sweet, and catchy as hell" (Exclaim Magazine). We figured that out.
Song: Hallelujah Artist: Jenny Galt more...
The town's water tower is the scene of a poignant reunion between childhood friends, Jason, Tanya and Danny. It resonates to the haunting words and melody of the Leonard Cohen classic Hallelujah, performed specially for the movie by Jenny Galt of the Vancouver-based duo Cherrybomb.
Song: Beautiful Blue Artist: Holly McNarland more...
The stunningly beautiful ballad in the bus stop scene is Beautiful Blue, the hit song by Winnipeg native and Juno Award-winning recording artist Holly McNarland. Held aloft by McNarland's powerful voice, this superbly-crafted gem will give you goose bumps.
Song: Before We Arrive Artist: Meligrove Band more...
The volleyball scene comes to life under the beachy harmonies of Before We Arrive by Toronto's Meligrove Band. Known in the Canadian indie scene for their high-energy live shows, this Endearing Records combo has shared the stage with Spoon, The Weakerthans, Billy Talent, Crooked Finger and Sloan. The album Let It Grow received four-star reviews from the Montreal Mirror and Toronto's Eye Weekly.
Song: Give Her What She Wants Artist: Zukie Joseph more...
Lane buys a round of post-volleyball shooters at the Sunset, and the gang mellows out to the reggae sound of Give Her What She Wants by Jamaican born Canadian, Zukie Joseph. A singer and percussionist in the tuff reggae/funk combo Boom Daddy, Joseph has also been enjoying a solo career since releasing his first solo album, About Time, in January 2004.
Song: Jah Jah Love Artist: Jahranimo more...
You can hear him at the Sunset Bar. The release of Jahranimo's debut album Real Life proves that hard work and a genuine love for music pays off. A solid chart climber, the album has confirmed Jahranimo as one of the most polished reggae/dancehall artists in the country, and made him a much sought-after act well beyond the country's borders. Jahranimo has shared the same bill with mega Reggae stars such as Tanto Metro and Devonte, Kirk Davis and Buju Banton.
Song: Into Your Hideout Artist: Pilate more...
When Paige figures out she's gonna have to hit some wake if she wants to know what Jason's all about, she does so to the stirring chords and anthemic vocal of Pilate's smash rock radio hit Into Your Hideout. The Toronto-based indie band took Canada by storm with the release of their critically lauded Caught By The Window album in September 2003. Driven by this blow away single, Juno nominations, three heavy rotation videos, and a scorching live act, Caught By The Window is pulling new fans 16 months after its release.
Song: What Makes You Think He's Lucky Artist: Doctor more...
When Lane and Tanya go to a biker bar to do a little business with Mook, the scruffy dealer's tightly-coiled menace is matched only by the cleverly-released adrenaline rush of What Makes You Think He's Lucky from the debut album High Is As High Gets by Doctor. Songwriters Daniel Greaves (formerly of the Watchmen) and Rob Higgins describe their process as "coffee fueled". Clearly they were into double digits on the espressos when they came up with the screaming chorus on this number.
Song: I Have To Leave My Darlin' Artist: DaGriff more...
When Tanya dances, it pisses Jason off, but everyone else loves it - even the crew forgot what they were supposed to be doing. Actress Devon's Weigel's sultry grind is to the mesmerizing beat of I Have To Leave My Darlin' from Vancouver-based reggae artist DaGriff.
Song: If It Feels Good Do It Artist: Sloan more...
Even Jason can't say no to Sloan. If It Feels Good Do It, sage words from one of the coolest bands in the Canadian music scene. What many call Canada's "original indie band" are now well-established on BMG with a host of popular and critically acclaimed albums in their discography. Sloan's hooky, Brit-influenced power pop became a radio staple in the 90's and has been there ever since. Jason boards to the rock 'n' roll manifesto If It Feels Good Do It from the band's 2002 release Pretty Together.
Song: Downtown Artist: Matt Mays & El Torpedo more...
Bad boy Lane ices his jaw at the Sunset Bar. In the background is the rootsy undulation of Downtown from the self-titled album by Nova Scotia's Matt Mays. Winner of New Artist Of The Year at the 2004 East Coast Music Awards and the recipient of Galaxie's Rising Star Award at NXNE 2003, Mays and his band, El Torpedo, continue to garner stellar reviews for their gutsy blend of rock and country, and were referred to by the Canadian Music Network as "a band capable of powering heavy machinery."
Song: Magazine Blue Artist: Mia Kulba more...
When Tanya's mother Darlene tracks her down for another round of mother-daughter dueling, the emotional scene is underscored by Magazine Blue, a soaring ballad from 17-year old Winnipeg native Mia Kulba. Another young Canadian female phenom on the rise, Mia is currently in the studio with legendary producer David Leonard (Prince, John Mellencamp, RUSH) recording her debut album for release in 2005.
Song: Carousel Artist: The Mark Inside more...
Things tense up in Falcon Beach when novice beach partier Georgie Tallis freaks out to the kaleidoscopic rock dervish Carousel from the debut disc Static/Crash by Toronto garage rockers The Mark Inside.
